Valencia Shetia Wheeler

Valencia Shetia Wheeler was born to parents Donnie and Desiree Wheeler on November 11, 1982. Soon she and older brother Antonio were joined by baby brother Donald.

“I started school at Monnier Elementary.  When I reached the fourth grade, my life turned around: my parents decided to get a divorce, which had me very discouraged. After they got divorced, my father decided to move, so I finished my last year at Monnier.

“It was now time to move into a new environment and meet new people and also enter a new school. The name of the school was Durfee Middle School; it was very different. The school looked like it was a high school and the students looked older. I adjusted and got into sports, dance, band and cheerleading. When I reached the eighth grade, I became the drum major of the band, and took up tutoring students in need of help. Now it was time to graduate and go to high school.

“My first day of high school was very exciting. At first I was scared, but I knew a lot of people who attended Central. People told me that I wasn't going to make it, but I proved them wrong. I am now a senior with a GPA of 3.7 overall. From the 9-12th grade, I've been on the honor roll. I was very active in many extra-curricular activities, such as band, dance, pride team, pom-pom, and octagon club. I also manage to work as an office assistant through co-op. During all of these activities and my job, I've managed to have the privilege of being inducted into the National Honor Society. It's almost time to go to college, where I plan to study Biology and pursue by dream of becoming a pediatrician.”
